Collaborative Dry Felt Project for Middle School Students
Oct 22, 2022
This mammoth collaborative class project was the second instalment of the original Starry Night Felt Project pictured below. I loved the final outcome SO much I wanted to try another Van Gogh inspired collaborative dry-felt project.

I was so happy with how the final artwork turned out I thought we could try it again with our next semester of Year 8 Textile students. AND how great would it be to have two beautiful felting pieces framed and on display side by side 🙂 Still using the theme of Van Gogh (can’t get enough of him!), this time we changed the artwork to be based on A Wheat Field with Cypress, oil on canvas, 1889.

In the same way as the previous project our class studied:
-
Vincent Van Gogh
-
Where does wool come from?
-
Dry Felting Technique
-
How to work collaboratively in a design team
Each student had one standard piece of felt (a little larger than A4), and the whole artwork is made up of 25 individual pieces. It was a great opportunity for students to learn how to communicate effectively and collaboratively and also plan and manage their project to finish on time.
Project Resources I created for this project can be downloaded here:
Overall I think our Wheat Fields felting turned out better than the Starry Night. Maybe because of the sky? I'll let you decide!
