Let’s Paint Bunnies! Free Live Easter Art Classes for Kids
Oct 22, 2022Oh Wow! I’m a little blown away by all the gorgeous bunnies we created this week in my free Easter Art Workshop. It’s been a while since I jumped online and did a live art class - and safe to say I LOVED teaching these Little Artists and bringing some bunnies to life. Take a look at the smiling, proud faces of these kids #heartmelt
My Easter Art Workshop this year was made up of three fun bunny art projects combining drawing and painting (two free classes and one for Art Club members). Each lesson was completed within 45 minutes with simple art supplies families already had in their craft cupboard. Every time I host a facebook live or zoom art class I am so impressed with results through this online learning method. Prior to COVID I would never have imagined students to be able to focus to virtual teaching instructions and create such quality outcomes - but every time my students do, online learning is so powerful!
If you missed our live art Easter Art Workshop don’t worry! Your Little Artist or classroom can still follow along the lesson replays. I have popped them in an email for you to access again and again. Click below to grab your lessons and create some fun bunny art.
Here is what our Easter Art Workshop included:
Lesson 1 Bunny Balloon
Little Artists used oil pastels or crayons with watercolour paints to create this artwork. We started by drawing a bunny in a basket then added a huge oval for a balloon. It was fun for Little Aritst’’ to contribute different colour and pattern ideas to decorate our balloon with oil pastels. We pulled out our paints to add some more colour and practiced brush strokes to completed the background. They LOVED this one.
Lesson 2 Abstract Bunny
This project was inspired by Brazilian artist Romero Britto. His playful use of bold patterns, vibrant colours and combination of cubism and pop art were perfect to look at and find ideas for our very own abstract Bunny. After coming up with some crazy pattern ideas, Little Artists followed along with me to create their bunny outline in a permanent marker. They loved contributing their pattern and colour ideas to our live chat as we moved our way through colouring the Bunny’s face, patterned sweater and ears. We then hopped on over to add MORE patterns with oil pastels or crayons in the background and finished off with a splash of watercolour paints. The final artworks were INCREDIBLE! This was an easy drawing project for all Little Artists to experience success no matter what their ability level. The more advanced artists completed their design with complex patterns and complementary colour schemes, and the little little artists had a gorgeous time making their Bunny just bounce off the page with starts, polka dots, stripes and all sorts.
Lesson 3: Mr. McGregor’s Garden
Our final Easter Workshop was an ode to one of my favourite childhood stories - Peter Rabbit. It’s nice to know ALL little kids are familiar with this story and Mr McGregor’s garden. I always try to find relatable themes, illustrations or imagery to weave into my art lessons - this and encourages kids to seemlessly make connections & meaning with their art. Unfortunately the recording of this zoom lesson wasn’t great so there is no replay available. Our draw-along lesson began with a horizon line and a little bunny with a sharpie. We brainstormed some veggies, thinking about different colours, shapes and ones that grew below and above the soil. The bunny was living in a burrow, this outlined was added and crept between any of the veggies and off the page. The colour for this project was added with some oil pastel outlines for the veggies and light-brown dashes in the soil. Finally the kids added watercolour paint to the garden, they chose a bright colour for the sky and brown soil. Check out the gorgeous pieces these students produced during our zoom class. This lesson went for over an hour and I was surprise how focus and busy they were the entire time.
