Mixed Media Feathers
Oct 22, 2022We run lunchtime Art Club each week at our secondary school. This club is open to all year levels, committed creatives or occasional drop ins, and has quickly become a busy hive of creating and making. Some students attend to seek extra help on their art design homework, others come to eat their lunch and try some oil pastels or watercolours, and everyone comes for the free food! Each year we decide on a large collaborative project to work on and exhibit at our mid year Art show. This year we are creating two huge wing silhouettes, cut out of ply wood. We were inspired by the wings scattered around NYC from street artist Kelsey Montague. To decorate our wings is where our collaborative art making skills will be put to the test. As we don't have a lot of time during a lunch session I was looking small, manageable art making that students could complete easily during one lunch session and immediately see our collaborative art take shape. Creating a single feather each became the answer! The process for each feather involved only four steps and the rainbow results have been fantastic! All you need to do is:
-
draw
-
colour
-
rip (yes RIP your artwork!)
