Painting with Utensils

painting Oct 22, 2022

Include your child in the selection of utensils and then set up a station with some paint and paper. Using a paper plate as a paint tray allows the utensil to be covered in colour easily.

Exploring the different textures each utensil makes on the page is a great place to start for toddlers and little ones.

For the bigger kids you can move onto painting a scene. Try trees, the family house, a beach picture or the cat! As you can see the results are gorgeous.

What You Need:

  • Utensils

  • Paint

  • Paper

  • Tray for paint

What to do:

Set up lots of paper - a large roll across the kitchen table is great to cover for this activity.

Use a separate tray for each colour of paint. Squeeze a 50cent size blob onto the tray and cover a utensil in paint

Create textures on the page using tiny strokes, big strokes, whole arm movements, dots. Explore all sides of the utensil.
