Pasta Art Wall Hanging: Kente Cloth
Oct 22, 2022
This craft-a-noon was inspired by these beautiful Kente Cloth fabrics from Ghana, Africa. Kente cloth is native to the people of Ghana and is still celebrated and worn for its iconic blend of bold patterns and colour. I visited African a few years and was mesmerised by the rows of market stalls with hundreds of different fabric designs! The pattern and colour woven in Kente cloth has a rich history of representing particular tribes, religious meaning and symbolism.
I love the ancient tradition wrapped woven through each tread of these bright and "happy" looking textiles! The simple colour schemes and shape in each design were a great starting point for re-creating our own version of Kente Cloth - using dyed pasta!

Place 1C pasta in a zip lock bag - I used rigatoni pasta, but a variety of different shapes would work well too! Add drops of food dye and a tsp of vinegar. Shake until pasta is coloured then leave to dry on a tray. Repeat this for each colour of dyed pasta.
2. Cut a 20 x 25 cm piece of cardboard.
3. Create a pattern using dyed pasta. Make sure you leave a single row of pasta at the top.
4. Once your happy with your pattern, glue one piece of pasta to the cardboard at a time.
5. When this is dry thread a stick or piece of dowel through the top row of pasta. Attach string to each end to hang.
